How do I deactivate or delete my BrainUs account?

We're sorry to see you considering leaving! Here are your options for taking a break or permanently deleting your account.

Options Available

1. Deactivate (Temporary)

  • Take a break without losing data
  • Account hidden from others
  • Can reactivate anytime
  • All progress preserved

2. Delete (Permanent)

  • Complete account removal
  • All data permanently deleted
  • Cannot be undone
  • No recovery after 30 days

How to Deactivate Your Account

Temporary Break:

  1. Log in to BrainUs
  2. Go to Account (Settings)
  3. Scroll to Account Status
  4. Click Deactivate Account
  5. Select reason (optional)
  6. Click Deactivate

What Happens:

  • Profile hidden from search
  • Friends can't see your activity
  • Leaderboard position frozen
  • Streaks paused (won't break!)
  • Subscriptions paused

While Deactivated:

  • You can log in anytime to reactivate
  • All data remains safe
  • No emails sent (except security)
  • Premium subscription paused (when available)

How to Permanently Delete Account

⚠️ Warning: This is irreversible!

Steps:

  1. Log in to BrainUs
  2. Go to Account (Settings)
  3. Scroll to Danger Zone
  4. Click Delete Account Permanently
  5. Read the warnings carefully
  6. Enter your password
  7. Type "DELETE" to confirm
  8. Click Delete My Account

What Gets Deleted:

  • All quiz history and progress
  • XP, streaks, and achievements
  • Friends and social connections
  • Learning path progress
  • Profile and settings
  • Premium subscription (if any)
  • All personal data

Grace Period

30-Day Recovery Window:

  • Account marked for deletion
  • Can cancel deletion within 30 days
  • Log in and click "Cancel Deletion"
  • After 30 days: permanent and irreversible

During Grace Period:

  • Account is deactivated
  • No access to features
  • Data still exists but inaccessible
  • Can reactivate by logging in

Before You Delete

Consider These Alternatives:

Option 1: Deactivate Instead

  • Take time off without losing progress
  • Come back when exams are near
  • All data preserved

Option 2: Adjust Notifications

  • Turn off all emails
  • Disable push notifications
  • Keep account for later

Option 3: Download Your Data

  • Export all quiz results
  • Save achievement history
  • Download progress reports
  • Then delete if you want

Option 4: Just Stop Using It

  • No obligation to delete
  • Free accounts cost us nothing
  • Maybe you'll return someday
  • Data stays safe

Export Your Data First

Before Deleting:

  1. Go to Account (Settings) > Privacy
  2. Click Download My Data
  3. Request data export
  4. Receive email with ZIP file (24-48 hours)
  5. Download includes:
    • All quiz attempts and scores
    • Progress and analytics
    • Achievement history
    • Profile information
    • Learning paths

What Happens to Your Premium?

If You Have Premium (when available):

  • Active subscription is canceled
  • No refund for remaining time (except within 14 days)
  • Can request refund if within guarantee period

What Happens to Friends?

Your Friends Will:

  • No longer see you on their friend list
  • Lose access to your profile
  • Can't send you messages
  • Past messages remain but show "Deleted User"

You Will:

  • Lose all friend connections
  • Cannot recover friend list if you rejoin
  • Need to re-add friends if you create new account

Can I Use Same Email Again?

After Deletion:

  • Email becomes available after 30 days
  • Can create new account with same email
  • Starts completely fresh
  • No connection to old account
  • Previous data not restored

Accidentally Deleted?

Within 30 Days:

  1. Go to app.brainus.lk/login
  2. Log in with old credentials
  3. Click Cancel Account Deletion
  4. Account fully restored!

After 30 Days:

  • Cannot be recovered
  • All data permanently deleted
  • Need to create new account
  • Start from scratch

Privacy & Data

We Delete:

  • All personal information
  • Quiz history and progress
  • Profile data
  • Analytics and tracking
  • Payment information

We Keep (Anonymized):

  • Aggregated statistics (no personal info)
  • Platform improvement metrics
  • Required legal/financial records (7 years)

  • "Too many emails" → Adjust notification settings

After Deletion

Confirmation:

  • Email sent confirming deletion request
  • 30-day countdown begins
  • Daily reminder emails (opt-out available)
  • Final warning at 3 days remaining

Final Day:

  • Last chance email sent
  • Account deleted at midnight
  • No recovery possible after
  • Welcome back anytime with new account

Creating a New Account

If You Return:

  • Use different email (or wait 30 days)
  • Start fresh with new account
  • Previous data not recoverable
  • Can't merge accounts
  • All progress starts at zero

  • Try different learning style
  • Better study habits
  • New goals and strategies
